Introducing Sheffield 78 — the raw new brainchild of acclaimed composer Frank Ilfman. Born from the scorched circuitry of a forgotten era, Sheffield 78 grinds vintage synths, warped tape loops, rust-bitten drum machines, and industrial percussion into a gritty new pulse. Fueled by haunting vocals and machinery on the verge of collapse, it’s a distorted dive into analog electronica, where melody and chaos collide.
The debut album, RETORIKA, is a flickering transmission from the dark side of the ‘80s, where beauty bleeds through static and shadow. Unearthed from reel-to-reel archives and lovingly reanimated, the tracks resurrect the raw, magnetic spirit of early UK electronica, evoking legends like Fad Gadget, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle, but with a voice all their own.
Leading the charge is the single “Anvils in the Abyss”, a grinding, cinematic opener that sets the tone for what’s to come
