Ilfman + Sonitus Mortis Announce New EP Test Subject Zero — A Dark, Confrontational Soundscape Inspired by the Hidden Horror of Animal Testing
Electronic artist Ilfman and experimental industrial project Sonitus Mortis unveil their uncompromising new collaborative EP, Test Subject Zero, a dark, brooding sonic document that confronts the brutal realities of laboratory animal testing.
Blending abrasive industrial textures, cinematic electronics, and raw field recordings, Test Subject Zero pushes listeners into an intense auditory environment designed to provoke discomfort, empathy, and reflection. Central to the EP’s sound design are manipulated samples derived from recordings of primates – gorillas and monkeys whose species have historically been used in laboratory testing. These elements are transformed into rhythmic pulses, distorted vocal textures, and unsettling atmospheres that permeate the record.
The result is a relentless, in-your-face listening experience that blurs the line between music and protest.
Sonitus Mortis explain the intention behind the project:
“We wanted to make a sound that would give people a sense, even briefly of the horror those animals suffer during testing. The EP isn’t meant to be comfortable. It’s meant to confront you.”
